“I wonder if he saw the potential he wasted from watching Trump, thinking to himself how that could have been him…”

I seriously doubt it. He’s a narcissist. Likely blames everyone else for his shortcomings. Including his parents and grandparents. He did leave us shackled with his dream of government “health care”.

Obama had a mandate like few before him and squandered it. His freedom to operate was served up on a silver platter with a public good will that wanted nothing more than a final end to the corruption of the elites. What he really wanted was to serve the elites and reap his personal reward.

Great stuff. Reading this I was surprised with myself at how deeply I'd forgotten Obama's original cultural impact.

a quite somber and sympathetic post mortem for a man so often reviled by many in the New Right commentariat. Whatever the details and blame to be given in each case along the path of Obamas presidency, one can see some of the truth of things as illuminated here. great read!

In the end I'm glad he was ineffective. What was interesting is he got stymied by the same basic machinery that made Trump ineffective his first term.

as a zillenial, I only really came into political consciousness during the later half of his presidency, so it was interesting to hear another perspective from those who saw things as they happened. the more I hear, the more I agree with you there.

The similarities between Trump are interesting as well. Hard to say if that points more to the Uniparty being the Uniparty, or if he just happened to infuriate a critical mass of republicans. The shared inexperience with savvy political maneuvering; a lack of opportunity for Trump, a lack of obstacles for Obama, also suggests a more organic difficulty for "outsiders" regardless of organized resistance.

As a peak millenial, i 'member preatty well Obama worship back in the days. Everyone was baffled how bad he squandered his mandate.

I remeber preatty well people whispering that maybe he was the first DEI candidate.

I disagree with a lot of this; I think Obama was okay selling out

Obama never was an independent operator though. He was picked and chosen and lifted up for the face he brought to the leftist platform. He was a poster child because he had a great presentation yet deeply hated the US and its people. The man rose through the ranks of Chicago for God's sake, it's been a bastion of corruption for over 150 years. He reneged on all his talk and promises in his pre-presidential career, like affirming the Assyrian genocide. That's why I call him "the face". He was never more than a face for a cynical agenda and he embraced it 100% with no qualms or reservations. He's just another tool in the tool belt there with Mike.
